The Original Post
So, we broke up. I told him that I love myself the way I am and if he can’t accept that and the fact that women’s bodies change throughout their lives, he can go. He said that he’s saying all those things to me because he cares about me and doesn’t want me to get fat and ugly.
Anyways, we had a bad fight and broke up. And then he called me a disgusting soon-to-be whale and said that I’ll never find anyone else and lost my last chance at love. So yeah, this year is off to a great start for me. Super happy. Spent the entire day crying in front of the mirror, but oh well 🤷🏻♀️

What Reddit Said
Redditors immediately rallied around OP with overwhelming support. They praised her courage for standing up to such toxic behavior. Moreover, commenters pointed out that his cruel insults revealed his true character.
Many users highlighted the absurdity of telling a 23-year-old she’d lost her “last chance at love.” In fact, they emphasized this proved he was never genuinely concerned about her health. Instead, his controlling behavior was about manipulation and emotional abuse.
The Verdict
The consensus was crystal clear: OP dodged a major bullet. This boyfriend terrified of girlfriend gaining weight showed classic signs of an abuser when his control was challenged. Reddit celebrated this as a victory, not a loss. The community agreed this was actually the perfect start to her year – freedom from a toxic relationship that would have only gotten worse over time.
