Commuter Coughed on Train Vaper – Reddit’s Petty Revenge

📅 February 6, 2026 👁️ 15 views ⏱️ 2 min read
A commuter on a packed train watched someone illegally vape right in front of their face. When the strawberry-scented vapor triggered their cough reflex, they deliberately chose not to cover their mouth and coughed repeatedly at the rule-breaker from six inches away.

The Original Post

Was on a packed commuter train home from work. Vaping or smoking is not allowed on trains. We’re all squashed in like sardines and I was standing minding my own business with one hand holding my bag and one hand on the overhead rail for balance.
Dude in front of me reaches down and pulls out a vape, takes a small puff and quickly stashes it away again, seemingly hoping no one would notice. I’m side on to him so this is happening 6inches from my eyes. He lets his breath out. Immediately the air smells of strawberries or whatever scent chemical they use in vapes.

The chemical triggered a cough reflex in me. Under normal circumstances I’d have let go of the rail and covered my mouth but I chose not to on this occasion. And then I coughed repeatedly right at his face from 6 inches away.

What Reddit Said

Reddit absolutely loved this instant karma moment. The top commenter, who vapes themselves, found the reaction hilarious and completely justified. Moreover, they expressed that vapers who break rules in public spaces deserve consequences like this.

Users praised OP for the perfectly petty response. In fact, many felt this was exactly the kind of natural consequence that rule-breakers should face. The consensus was clear: sometimes the best revenge is simply not being polite to inconsiderate people.

The Verdict

Reddit’s verdict was overwhelmingly supportive of the commuter who coughed on train vaper. This represents perfect petty revenge – proportional, immediate, and satisfying. The story resonated because it shows how public transport drama can be resolved with simple, direct consequences rather than confrontation.
