Friend Kept Me Waiting Hours Then Got Mad I Left – AITA?

📅 December 9, 2025 👁️ 20 views ⏱️ 3 min read

On today’s episode of people who should know better, a friend kept me waiting hours for shopping plans, then had the audacity to get mad when I finally went home. Meanwhile, she’s playing victim like she wasn’t the one who ghosted for two whole hours.

When Your Friend Kept You Waiting: The Backstory

Meet our protagonist and her friend Meg, who apparently thinks punctuality is just a suggestion. Meg needed help shopping for her new apartment and specifically asked for our hero’s fashion expertise. Therefore, our considerate friend rearranged her entire day to accommodate Meg’s request.

They agreed to meet at 3 PM at the store. However, this is where things get spicy, because Meg clearly operates on her own special timezone.

The Friend Kept Me Waiting Hours Incident

Our punctual protagonist arrived at 3 PM sharp, like a functioning adult. Meanwhile, Meg sent a casual “On my way” text at 3:10, as if being late was totally normal.

At 3:30, another text: “In traffic.” At 4:05: “Almost there.” By 4:45, still no Meg in sight. Consequently, our patient friend had been wandering the store aisles for nearly two hours, probably looking like a lost retail ghost.

Finally, at 4:55, she texted that she was leaving because her back hurt from standing around. Suddenly, Meg wasn’t stuck in traffic anymore and fired back instantly. Furthermore, she called her friend “dramatic” and claimed she “ruined her day.”

Later that night, Meg sent a guilt-trip novel about being “abandoned.” She also dropped this gem: “friends show up.” The irony was apparently lost on her.

What Reddit Said

Most people immediately pointed out the delicious irony of Meg’s “friends show up” comment. As one top commenter noted, “There’s your answer right there. SHE didn’t show up.”

However, some focused on the double standard at play. They emphasized that Meg asked for the favor, set the time, then completely disrespected her friend’s schedule.

In addition, many highlighted that two hours of waiting is beyond reasonable. A few pointed out that proper communication could have prevented the whole mess.

Nevertheless, some suggested the friend could have stayed longer since she was already there. Most people, however, disagreed with this take completely.

The Verdict

Overall verdict: OP is definitely NTA (Not the Asshole). When someone asks you for a favor, the least they can do is show up on time or communicate properly. This story perfectly illustrates why respecting people’s time is fundamental to any friendship.
